Dutchmen plays Secret Santa for local family in need
The pandemic has hit some families harder than others. Many lost their jobs leaving family members wondering how they were going make ends meet especially over the holiday season. Dutchmen Manufacturing recognized this need in our community and decided to help a family in need.
Dutchmen teamed up with The Crossing, a local education center that focuses on keeping kids in school and job skills training, to adopt a family for the holidays. A monetary goal was set, but after everyone heard about the family in need Dutchmen employees surpassed the goal in one day. The money donated went towards buying presents for under the tree for the family in need. Children of Dutchmen employees volunteered to help shop and wrap gifts during down time from their online learning schedules.
After the wrapped gifts were delivered, we received word that the mother called The Crossing in tears saying it was Christmas miracle. She also shared that the family was struggling so bad they didn’t have money for presents and this was the only way they could have presents under the tree to open on Christmas morning.
Sometimes the best gift isn’t something extravagant and expensive. It can be as simple as an essential item like deodorant, underwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants, tooth paste etc. like our adopted family asked for. They also requested some journals for writing, colored pencils for coloring, and a fruitcake. The family received a Christmas Miracle, but to the employees of Dutchmen they received the best gift of all….the Christmas Spirit.
Even though the holidays have passed us by and we are now in the New Year of 2021. We all have hopes of life getting back to normal. But there are a lot of people who are still struggling during this time. Even though the holidays have passed, please remember to give if you can. Sometimes the smallest gifts are the biggest.
